Why I Started Paws-itive
Dogs have been at the centre of my professional life from the very beginning of my military career. Working with military working dogs taught me that successful training is never simply about teaching commands or correcting unwanted behaviour—it's about building trust, understanding and clear communication.
Throughout my military service, those principles remained constant. Whether working with highly trained dogs in demanding environments or observing the relationship between handlers and their dogs, one lesson always stood out: every behaviour has a reason, and lasting change comes from understanding the dog, not simply reacting to the behaviour.
When I founded Paws-itive, I wanted to bring that same professional understanding to everyday family life.
Too often, owners are left feeling frustrated, overwhelmed or unsure where to turn when their dog develops unwanted behaviours. My aim is to give families the knowledge and confidence to understand why their dog behaves the way they do, helping them build a calmer, happier relationship together.
For me, success isn't measured by how well a dog obeys a command—it's measured by seeing both the dog and the family feel relaxed, confident and able to enjoy life together.
My Training Philosophy
I believe every dog deserves to be understood, not simply managed.
There is no one-size-fits-all approach because every dog, every family and every home is different. My role is to help owners understand what their dog is communicating and provide practical, achievable guidance that creates lasting change.
Everything I do is built around five simple principles.
Fairness
Dogs learn best when they feel safe and understand what is expected of them. Fair, balanced training creates confidence rather than confusion.
Clarity
Clear communication allows dogs to make good decisions. When expectations are consistent, dogs are far more likely to succeed.
Consistency
Small, consistent actions every day achieve far more than occasional corrections. Everyone in the household has a role to play in helping a dog feel secure and understand the world around them.
Relationship
Training is about building trust, not simply gaining obedience. A strong relationship gives both owner and dog the confidence to enjoy life together.
Understanding Behaviour
Every behaviour serves a purpose. Rather than simply suppressing unwanted behaviours, I work to understand why they occur and address the underlying cause, creating meaningful and lasting change.
"My goal isn't simply to change your dog's behaviour - it's to help your family and your dog understand each other, creating a relationship where both can thrive."
